In honor of the founding of the USA, please assist me with a CarFax check on a 2001 Corvette Z06, VIN 1G1YY12S015116506 - yes, if you look through !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I swore that I was going to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and I will. This example may be cheap enough to fight my wife for driveway space for a toy. I’ve !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and it’s local.
It’s the ‘01, so down a bit on power over the ‘02-’04, but a skilled driver wouldn’t cause that to be a problem at autocross. Several have done great things with an ‘01. Also, given my slightly better than mediocre skill level, it likely won’t matter anyway.
If I can actually keep the conversation with the owner going, I’ll take a look at it in person and see how bad the “paint problems” are. Are there any other problems lurking in the CarFax? Plz hlp.

Just put a funny balloon animal on the car and tell a joke. “How do you know this car shouldn’t be transported by boat? It’s almost C6!”

The '01 is known for oil consumption issues. Not sure if that's something you can check for, but it's worth being aware of. It may have weak valve springs too if it was built in late 2001.

Balloon animal likely to go over like a lead balloon.
Now, if I put a new-to-us dog in the car and said “it’s a package deal!” I might be received better.
But I’m going to try conversation and logic first, as there is still a chance that this may be successful .

Autocross eh? Last C5Z I saw at autocross ended up on its roof.

I appreciate the pointers. I view this as a cheap enough example that I’m probably willing to take the risks.

There are at least three, if not more, that regularly compete in the Central Carolinas Region. And my main G-Street competitor is buying another to add to the mix (which means that I can be assured that my standing will not improve by switching classes ).

Heh - the C5Z I’m referring to bit the dust at a TSCC event up in Greensboro. We’ve got quite a few C5s that run up here, but all the others I’ve seen have been the standard cars or the FRC.

Probably the ones that you see there also compete here.
I’m going to try to make one of the year end events there at the Dixie Fairgrounds, I hear it’s a fun spot.

Just heard yesterday that DRM is making a batch of 75 sets of revalved Bilstein B8. Pretty good shocks to compete in STU.

It’s my favorite one around here, honestly. Competed there with both my BRZ and S3. Unfortunately now I don’t have anything worth bringing out, thought it would be hilarious to see how slow my Lexus would be.
Dixie Classic is great - nice, smooth asphalt, shaded stands to watch and if you get there early enough, you can get a “pit” at one of the little fair stalls that provides shade for your seats, tools and other stuff.

I was planning to run A-Street, but I’ll have to reverse mod the air box and the short-shift on this example to be legit. If I was going STU I’d have to look at the ones on the market with full downpipe/mid-pipe/etc. exhaust to get the extra power, I guess.

Honestly, 375bhp (405 for me) is enough for autox.
I’m planning coilovers and delrin bushings coz I want the Z to be as confident as the Mini thru the corners. Class be damned, pax it

Good point on the power. I guess STU would allow changes in both sway bars. And springs as well, right? Can change shocks in AS.
Class be damned means ( in this case) that you might as well go CAM.

The oil consumption is no biggie if you stay on top of it and add oil , but I don’t believe there is a remedy other than to tear it down and replace piston rings (iirc).
The valve spring issue I would look into. I’d find the build date on the door jam and check the forums. If there is legitimate risk, might as well replace them. I had a 2003 C5Z and upgraded my valve springs as a precaution

Well looks like at 33,349 miles it had a service in NJ, then 33,626 it had a service at a dealer in South Carolina with no other warranty work logged after that.

Transmission replaced at 8000 miles. Multiple fuel tank/fuel pump replacements. Hmm, very interesting , any history after 33,600 miles?

Yes, you can replace shocks, but there is some caveat that I’m forgetting about what you can change them for . . . maybe no coil-overs.

Maybe. Another poster mentioned it was built in 2000, so it may not even have the weak springs.

I’m the owner of the 01 Z06 pictured above. Paint is bleached out in a few places from sitting in the sun and has one section where the clear coat is peeling over one of the stripes. Just put it up for sale - need to raise cash for college. Listed on CarGurus with photos. If your still interested I can give you additional info.
